The WIA Wooden Globe Awards are presented to honor excellence among woodworking companies. WIA members may nominate their customers and/or educators, and awards are presented in the categories listed below.

Nominations for the 2026 Wooden Globe Awards are now open – nominations must be received no later than 11:59pm Eastern on Monday, January 15, 2026.

OPEN FOR NOMINATIONS

The “Educator of the Year” award acknowledges an educational institution or company with a structured curriculum tailored to training individuals for careers in the woodworking industry. This must include hands-on training on high-technology machinery supplied by one or more WIA-member companies. This must extend beyond training individuals for a single company. These recipients are advocates for the industry, and work to enhance the lives of others by sharing the opportunity and knowledge of the wood industry.

Criteria

  • Programs: List the woodworking programs the institution offers.
  • Degrees/Certificates: Describe the degree/certificates given upon completion of the program.
  • Placement: Describe any placement programs available.
  • Re-education: Describe programs that re-train individuals already in the workforce.
  • Equipment: List the WIA-member-supplied high-technology equipment used in the education process.
  • Innovation: Describe anyways the institution that is innovative or unique in its educational programs.
  • Other: Provide any other information that will help the Education Committee in their decision.

Winner Selection

The winner of the Educator of the Year Award is selected by WIA’s Education Committee.

Presentation

The Educator of the Year is presented with a physical award during the annual Wood Industry Conference (WIC). The winner and the nominator each receive one complimentary registration to WIC along with airfare and hotel reimbursement. Additional details will be provided at the time of notification.

OPEN FOR NOMINATIONS

The “Commitment to Excellence through Technology” award seeks to recognize companies that continuously invest in the most recent woodworking machinery technology. The recipients of this award are companies that provide a shining example that continued investments in high technology machinery provide the necessary competitive advantage to compete successfully in today’s global market.

Criteria

  • Narrative to include brief snapshot/history of the company, the product(s) manufactured, how and why the nominee sees value in investing in the most recent woodworking machinery technology.
  • Include metrics that provide evidence of the positive result of this investment.
  • List examples of the nominee’s ongoing investment in high-technology equipment supplied by WIA-member companies over the past two years.
  • Provide any other information that will help the Awards Committee in their decision such as: videos, photos, articles, brochures. Also, if possible, include a customer reference attesting to the quality of the finished product. The winner of the Commitment to Excellence Through Technology Award is selected by WIA’s Awards Committee.

Presentation

The winner of the Commitment to Excellence Through Technology Award is presented with a physical award during the International Woodworking Fair (IWF). The winner will receive one complimentary registration to IWF along with airfare and hotel reimbursement. Additional details will be provided at the time of notification.

OPEN FOR NOMINATIONS

The "Eco-Alternative Wood Product of the Year" award is presented to a company that currently produces a unique and creative product which showcases the beauty and appropriate use of wood materials, with a focus on sustainability, using high technology machinery supplied by one or more member companies. Examples: Watches, sunglasses, skis, cutlery, technology cases for phones and tablets, canoes, etc. Products that are produced using eco-friendly wood material in place of man-made materials.

Criteria

  • Submissions for consideration would include projects that showcase a unique range of wood product applications and demonstrate an understanding of the special qualities of wood, such as strength, durability, beauty and cost-effectiveness while utilizing high technology machinery in an innovative way.
  • Narrative to include a Brief snapshot of the product(s) or process(es) manufactured, the genesis of the innovative idea, a snapshot of the company, and how their use of woodworking machinery utilized provided advantages over the alternatives.
  • Include or provide evidence of the positive result of this innovation.
  • Provide any other information that will help the Awards Committee in their decision. Most helpful to the evaluation process would be a portion of the strategic plan that specifically highlights the role the woodworking machinery helps to make the innovative product or service possible.

Winner Selection

The winner of the Eco-Alternative Wood Product of the Year Award is selected by WIA’s Awards Committee.

Presentation

The winner of the Eco-Alternative Wood Product of the Year Award is presented with a physical award during the International Woodworking Fair (IWF). The winner will receive one complimentary registration to IWF along with airfare and hotel reimbursement. Additional details will be provided at the time of notification.

OPEN FOR NOMINATIONS

The "Executive of the Year" award recognizes leaders in the woodworking industry who hold a C-level, president, owner, partner, director, or other executive position. Candidates can be drawn from any industry sector including but not limited to Manufacturers, Distributors, Suppliers, or any individual who have contributed to the growth of the woodworking industry.

Criteria

  • Submissions for consideration require an overview of the why the candidate would be deserving of an award, seeking outstanding contributions in the form of personal, corporate, technical, sales, product and/or marketing achievements that have benefited the woodworking industry.
  • Show quantitative data for his/her contributions to the company’s success including examples of any strategic initiatives that may demonstrate: market growth, organizational growth, community engagement, contributions to industry growth (new technologies, best practices, legislative engagement, etc.), recruiting of new talent into woodworking industry, education and professional development, crisis navigation, and/or leadership qualities (motivation, leadership, personality, decision-making).
  • Provide any other information that will help the Awards Committee in their decision.

The winner of the Executive of the Year Award is presented with a physical award during the International Woodworking Fair (IWF).
