Newly elected directors will officially begin their three-year terms on January 1, 2027, helping guide the association’s strategic direction and industry initiatives during a pivotal time for the woodworking and manufacturing sectors.

According to WIA bylaws, the Nominating Committee is responsible for reviewing submissions and recommending qualified candidates for Board approval. Following the review process, a final ballot will be presented to WIA membership in early fall, with voting conducted electronically. Each Active Member company will be eligible to cast one vote in the election.

WIA encourages members to nominate individuals who are passionate about advancing the association’s mission and willing to dedicate the time and effort required for board leadership. Directors participate in approximately two in-person meetings annually, including the Spring Board of Directors Meeting held during the Wood Industry Conference and the Fall Board of Directors Meeting, along with additional virtual meetings throughout the year.

To qualify, nominees must represent an Active Member company of WIA. Associate Members are not eligible to serve on the Board of Directors. In addition, only one representative from a member company may serve on the Board at a time.

Candidates may nominate themselves or be nominated by another member with prior consent. Each submission must include the nominee’s name, company affiliation, and a statement outlining professional qualifications and involvement within the association.

WIA leaders say the nomination process is an important opportunity for members to help shape the future of the organization and strengthen industry representation across North America.

National Wood Manufacturing Day is an opportunity for companies, suppliers, educators, and industry professionals to showcase the impact of wood manufacturing and inspire the next generation of skilled workers. From advanced technology and automation to craftsmanship and sustainable practices, the industry continues to evolve while creating rewarding career opportunities.

Members are encouraged to participate by hosting facility tours, engaging local schools and community groups, sharing stories on social media, or highlighting employees and projects that demonstrate the strength of the industry. From February 4–6, 2026, wood industry professionals gathered in beautiful Lake Tahoe for the annual Wood Industry Networking & Snowsports (WINS) event—an experience that once again delivered the perfect blend of business and leisure.

Attendees were treated to incredible weather throughout the event, with clear skies and ideal conditions for both networking and outdoor activities. Whether hitting the slopes for skiing and snowboarding or simply taking in the stunning mountain views, participants embraced all that Lake Tahoe has to offer.

Beyond the slopes, WINS created countless opportunities for meaningful connection. Industry peers strengthened existing relationships and built new ones in a relaxed, welcoming environment that encouraged both collaboration and camaraderie.

WIA has partnered with the Architectural Woodwork Institute (AWI) to provide members with access to the AWI Community—an online platform that connects architectural wood manufacturers, installers, suppliers, and the design community in one place.

With over 4,000 active users, the AWI Community offers a fantastic opportunity to network, share insights, and stay updated on industry trends and needs. We believe this collaboration will bring valuable benefits to both WIA and AWI members by fostering greater information exchange and industry connections.

Celebrating Excellence: Challengers Awards & Wooden Globe Awards
IWF announced seven winners in the 2024 IWF Challengers Distinguished Achievement Award® competition. The winners were selected from 20 finalists, narrowed from a field of 92 entries from 75 exhibiting companies. Among the seven winners was WIA Member Northtech Machine LLC for iGlue by Northtech.

The 2024 Wooden Globe Awards were presented by WIA during the "Night at the Tabernacle" event on Wednesday evening. These prestigious awards celebrate companies and individuals who have made significant contributions to the woodworking industry.

Commitment to Excellence Through Technology
Greyloch was recognized for its continuous investment in advanced woodworking machinery. The family-owned company, founded in 1991, has revolutionized custom cabinetry with its new 96,909 square foot automated facility in Star, Idaho. The award was accepted by Shaun Fickes, co-founder of Greyloch.

Educator of the Year
Mark Smith of Reed-Custer High School in Crestwood, Illinois, received this award for his dedication to educating the next generation of woodworkers. His curriculum introduces students to modern woodworking tools and techniques, offering valuable industry credentials and college credits.
